Updated Review: ***** $$$ 2005 Mollydooker Shiraz The Boxer Australia - BEST VALUE

Original Review, October, 2006: Floating on a cloud to wine nirvana... The aroma strikes you as one of pure, bright, yet slightly creamy, grapes. But as you sip, the transport into velvety wonder ratchets up. There, the oak and depth come through, still wrapped in bright, peppery creaminess. And it lasts. Welcome home, Sarah and Sparky. You've arrived. Marquis Philips portfolio were your training wheels.

Updated review, over five years later,  December, 2011:  The color is opaque from a quarter inch of the black magenta edge.  Aromas are still deep, creamy grapes.  The palate carries all of the depth, sleekness and brightness from a half-decade ago.  Nice spices and chocolate lead to the finish.   Awesome, crazy best value.

  1. I just read about this wine in the Business Journal last week. Robert Parker has a one page article there every week and last week he wrote about this winery. He was clearly impressed as well by this bottle of wine, giving it 95 points. I guess I just have to locate it to try it myself...

  2. Thanks for your note, Victoria. Yes, the Boxer can be tough to find. Online has been my best option. Try winezap.com from time to time. By the way, your "Tastes of Life" blog is an interesting read - I've linked it from here. Your regular postings are impressive.

  3. I found a case in a small store in my area- grabbed it up- The Mollydooker line is Sparky and Sarahs best effort- big Aussie fruit bombs, and if you like the style, you'll love these wines. Sparky and Sarah have allways been favorites of mine, as i'm a big fan of these "new world fruit bombs". I just ordered 3 cases of the 06 (boxer, two feet, COL, EP) and they should arrive in June- i can't wait. I also ordered a bottle of "Velvet Glove" which Sparky says is their best effort yet......we'll see.....
