Original Review, April, 2007: I've already reviewed the modestly-priced 2004 Di Majo Norante Sangiovese and wanted to compare the 2005. The 2004 and 2005 both earned 90-point Parker scores, though I only awarded two stars to the 2004.

The 2005 shows a very similar color to the 2004, deep red moving to an opaque center. Aromas of black cherry jump out of the glass from the 2005. On the nose, I do get additional stone dust, raspberry and the tiniest bit of stinky feet. On the palate, this comes in with very strong berry flavors, raspberry and strawberry pushing insistently around your mouth, hunting down every one of your taste buds to pucker it up with its juicy acids. A bright and pleasant experience. I would enjoy it again, but not to the exclusion of other wines to enjoy - so three stars it is.  That makes this a best value at its bargain price.

For comparison, here's what Robert Parker said in describing his 90 point rating: "The 2005 Sangiovese IGT offers an amazing display of strawberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with floral, new saddle leather, and earth notes. Aged in large wood foudres, it is a stunning example of Sangiovese that should drink well for 2-3 years. This wine represents incredible value for the money."

Updated review, over four years later, September, 2011:  Consistent color and nose.  Palate has taken on an oxidized element, more generic than distinctive.  Recommend consuming five years or less from vintage date.
