Rating: ** 2004 Trader Joe's Coastal Cabernet Sauvignon

Review: This is one of the "higher end" Trader Joe wines - costing at least TWICE as much as "Two Buck Chuck". Color is a clean, deep, transparent mahogany red. Aroma is restrained, showing a black, smoky, oaky fruit along with a mild, higher-pitched vegetable-style aroma. The palate is not distinctive, but does show some mid-body fruit and acids with a clean, fast finish. OK, but no bell-ringer for me.

  1. This wine might not ring your bell, but AOL called it the best Cabernet Savignon under $10 early last year. I find it a very acceptable wine to drink while cooking dinner, watching the sunset or sitting with friends over some appetizers. To each his own, I guess.

  2. Thanks, Amazing Grace. Two stars actually means I enjoyed it, but just wouldn't go seeking it out again. For a real rocking value in the $10 range, please someday do try the Finnegan's Lake "Fin" Cabernet Sauvignon.

Here's a link (I hope it works in comment, if not, search for "fin" in blog.):

  3. I too enjoyed drinking this wine -- it wasn't the most jaw-dropping glass, but we definitely won when we picked it up tonight.

I can't say the same about the Trader Joe's Chianti we tried, though. Too sweet, sandy leave, pretty awful :(
