Rating: **+ 2003 Zaca Mesa Estate Bottled Syrah, Santa Ynez Valley, CA

Review: Zaca Mesa's estate syrah shows a very deep red in the glass. It's deep oak and fruit aromas begin to fill the room even before you move in for a sip. On the palate, you notice the middle berry notes, then detect a bit of heat in the alcohol and the tannins. The finish ends with a bit of smoke and oak. Pairing with a spicy meat entree would help.

This wine was sampled as part of our brief expedition cruising Santa Ynez Valley.
