Rating: **** 2004 Avila Merlot, Santa Barbara County, CA
Review: This merlot showed as purple-red in the glass. The nose was one of burnt purple up front. On the palate, the burnt aroma vanished immediately in favor of a luscious, sweet-cherry middle, surrounded by comfortable tannins which led to a satisfying, mid-length finish. A merlot to curl up with for the evening.
