Rating: **+ 2004 Lane Tanner French Camp Syrah, San Luis Obispo County, CA

Review: This syrah was medium brick ruby in the glass. It displayed a complety charred marshmallow nose (think the marshmallows that caught on fire in the campfire). The palate was grainy, fruity and muddy. Not quite as bad as the description makes it sound. Actually, reasonably pleasant. But not enough to invite a return visit.

This wine was sampled as part of our brief expedition cruising Santa Ynez Valley.
