Rating: ***+ 2004 Longoria Alisos Vineyard Syrah, Santa Barbara Country, CA

Review: This is the higher-end bottling of single-vineyard syrahs from Longoria. The Alisos Vineyard, east of Los Alamos, is the source of grapes for this wine.

In the glass, this selection shows as a dark mid-red color. The aroma is lush, full of marshmallow and fruit. Once hitting the palate, an interesting set of effects unfolds - a sense of toast, the brightness and tang of blueberries and strong, bold tannins that draw the finish along. Lush, slightly rough still, but a nice experience overall. And a wine that would deserve another year or two of age.
