Rating: ***+ 2004 Presidio Sangiovese, Hallauer Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley, CA

Review: In the glass, this organically-grown sangiovese is ruby and red, sporting an aroma closer to one of syrah than sangiovese - a combination of red meat and pleasant basement dustiness. The palate creates a delicious mid-round red fruity style.

By constitution, I'm not a huge fan of sangiovese, but this is one of my more pleasant experiences in the category.

This wine was sampled as part of our brief expedition cruising Santa Ynez Valley.
