Rating: **** $$$ 2005 Longoria Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills, CA

Review: This is the basic pinot noir bottling for Longoria Wines, a combination of grapes primarily from Fe Ciega Vineyard with some added grapes from Foley Winery’s Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard.

It is light to mid-red in the glass. Aromas show a pleasant funk plus a peppery spice. On the palate, this young wine is bright, of course, but with impressively sleek, sweet red fruit in the middle - surprisingly silky for this early age. The medium-long finish is pleasant and sweet. As delicious as this is now, it seems to have capacity for a few years in the bottle too.

All in all, a wonderful rendition of Santa Ynez Valley pinot noir.
