Rating: **+ 2005 Rideau Vineyard IC Siempre Cuvee, Santa Ynez, CA

Review: This was the only one of the Rideau Vineyard reserve wines during a recent visit that didn't rate highly enough for me to want to experience it again. That said, it was not a painful experience at all. This is a blend of 80% tempranillo and 20% petit sirah. Color in the glass was pure ruby, with a pleasant, distinctive, cherry nose. On the palate, though, the flavors were all bright berry with a clean but fairly quick finish. It's two stars, with a plus for that distinctive aroma. But given that it touches up against "splurge" pricing levels, I'd avoid.

This wine was sampled as part of our brief expedition cruising Santa Ynez Valley.
