Rating: **+ 2006 Curran Grenache Blanc, Santa Ynez Valley, CA

Review: OK, so who has actually heard of this varietal before? C'mon, now. Honestly. "Grenache blanc"?!

Not, its not grenache pressed immediately with little skin contact to create a white wine (ala "blanc de noir"). It's "grenache blanc"!

OK, so it's an odd grape. Let's see how it performs, shall we?

In the glass it is obviously a white wine - clean, grassy and clear. Light middle and a sweet, clean finish. Very clean, pleasant, easy to drink - but somehow, to me, missing a middle. The head is attached to the hips, if that is not too unpleasant a picture.

This wine was sampled as part of our brief expedition cruising Santa Ynez Valley.
