Rideau Vineyard - Solvang, Santa Ynez Valley, CA

This visit was part of our brief expedition cruising Santa Ynez Valley.

Rideau Vineyard is a very pleasant, laid-back estate and tasting room, reflecting the New Orleans-style graciousness of its Creole owner and founder. Estate wines cover a wide range of white and red Rhone varietals. You are offered a wide sampling of these in the tasting room. I went with the higher-end reserve tasting. This included tasting in a Riedel crystal glass, but unlike most of the other wineries in the area, the glass was not offered as a memento. Grounds are spacious and pleasant. Picnic tables outside would beckon you if here at lunchtime, or seeking a special-event venue.

Moving from most to least favored, here are wines I sampled at Rideau:
2004 Rideau Vineyard IC Petite Sirah, Santa Ynez, CA
2004 Rideau Vineyard IC Chateau Duplantier, Santa Ynez, CA
2004 Rideau Vineyard IC Syrah, Santa Barbara County, CA
2005 Rideau Vineyard IC Estate Viognier, Santa Ynez, CA
2005 Rideau Vineyard IC Chardonnay, Bien Nacido, Santa Ynez, CA
2005 Rideau Vineyard IC Siempre Cuvee, Santa Ynez, CA
