Rating: **+ 2004 Stonemason Shiraz, Currency Creek, South Australia

This is a "practically free" Australian shiraz with some positive press. Let's see what it's got:

Color is a medium deep red. On the nose is a bright purplesque hue of violets and just-ripe plums. The palate shows of blazing ripe fruit, plums and blueberries. A tad hot with a quick finish, extended slightly with a base of acids. Pleasant. Not distinctive. Excellent with a tomato dish at the price.

I can't quite give it three stars, as I am not inclined to seek it out for the future. Two plus stars out of five.
