Rating: *** 2001 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, WA

Review:

This inexpensive Washington-state wine has a few years of bottle under its belt. Visually, it is still dark magenta, with no fade to brick or orange yet noticeable.

The aroma is muted, easy cabernet - just a touch of fruit, just a touch of oak. On the palate, a gentle fruit coats the mouth, delivering its modest load of cabernet flavors on a slight acid base. Pleasant, plum-chocolate elements with a decent, though still modest finish. No objections, would enjoy again with an appropriate meal. Can't see that the years have served it well, nor that additional years of age would improve things from here. Three stars out of five.
