Rating: ** Mirassou Merlot, 2002, CA

I gave the 2003 version of this inexpensive merlot three stars in an earlier review. Let's see how this slightly longer-aged version holds up.

In the glass, the 2002 Mirassou Merlot is transparent mid-red with a touch of orange sheen. The nose is slightly sweaty fruit - not a hugely interesting sweatiness... just sweaty.

On the palate, this is round, ripe fruit right in the middle of the taste zone, with a touch of oak and acids on the modest finish. Wants to be finished up right now, and not stored any longer. Ok for an evening. But I wouldn't seek out again. So two stars out of five this time.
