Review and Rating: *** $$ De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillion, 2004, New South Wales, Australia

This botrytis-based dessert wine comes from the Riverina area of New South Wales, Australia. Because of the generally dry climate of Australia, botrytis-based wines are somewhat of a rarity.

In the glass, the De Bortoli Noble One is deep gold. Aroma is deep honey and peach.

The palate is consistent, giving sweet, golden fruit with a definite, though mild, botrytis funk. Balanced acids in the modest sweet finish. I'd drink it again. Three stars out of five.

Josh Raynolds of Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar gave this 92 points, writing: "Fat, round and sweet but also lively, showing a range of candied pit fruit flavors and impressive depth. Plump, broad and impressively persistent sweet wine, with vanilla and baking spices clinging to the finish."
