Review and Rating: *** $$ Oakridge Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004, Victoria, Australia

Review:
Oakridge was established in 1978 as a producer of premium, cool-climate wines and is located in the Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne.

The Oakridge Yarra Valley cabernet sauvignon shows dark red/purple in the glass, almost opaque. Aromas are of ripe plums.

On the palate, the deep, rich plum flavor comes through, with robes of inky cherry. A bit of hot alcohol touches on the fairly lengthy finish. Three stars out of five.

Some folks are getting downright excited about cabernet from this region. According to reviewer Max Allen in the Weekend Australian, "I've said it before and I'll say it again: I reckon the Yarra's greatest red grape is not pinot, but cabernet. Just taste this beautiful example, with its fabulously intense, concentrated black currant fruit and supreme elegance and poise."
