Review and Rating: ***+ Dow's 20 Year Tawny Port, Douro, Portugal

Review:

Dow is one of the oldest Port wineries, dating to 1798. Fruit is from the Upper Douro region of Portugal.

This Dow 20 Year Tawny Port is light to medium brick red in the glass. Aromas are light and sweet, oozing tobacco and tar.

On the palate, there is a hot alcohol blast with the sweetness. This rolls along into a mellow, round, nutty middle, with an even, lingering finish. Nice. Three stars out of five, with a plus for plushness.

Wine & Spirit awarded 91 points, saying, ""Have a cigar. It’s the right match for this very British, old-school Port. The warm, peppery alcohol seems to ask for it, while the orange zest and walnut flavours will taste refreshing against the tobacco smoke. This has a clarity and crispness to keep its fat texture buttoned up."
