Review and Rating: ***+ Sula Dindori Reserve Shiraz, 2006, India

This is a shiraz made in the Dindori region of India by one of the country's larger producers, Sula. Based on my limited trials, I am reasonably impressed by the quality of this vintner's offering.

In the glass, the Sula Dindor Reserve Shiraz is mid deep red with purple highlights. The aroma is deep, reminding of husky fruit skins.

On the palate, this 2006 Sula is round, slightly beefy, showing a deep musky grape with a slightly chocolately deep funk. Interesting, memorable. Modest finish. Three plus stars out of five. Quite decent showing for a local India wine. My competitive set comes from world-class wines around the world.

I tried this at a restaurant in Mumbai, but its retail cost in U.S. dollars terms puts it in the value-priced "$$" category. It took a medal in the recent Sommelier India wine challenge.
