Original Review, May, 2008: The Four Vines Old Vine Cuvee Zinfandel, 2005, shows medium red magenta in the glass. Aromas are medium in power, with red cherry fruit predominating.

On the palate, there is a deep, furry, red middle. A sweet robe of bright and lightly acidic fruit drizzles around your mouth. Three stars out of five, with a plus for promise and pleasantness. Good value wine for everyday sipping.

Wine Spectator awarded 87 points, saying, "Ripe and jammy, with appealing pepper and raspberry aromas and supple flavors that take on length and firm tannins on the finish. Drink now. 20,000 cases made."

After a full day's decanting: very nice, acids have mellowed; overall impression of sweet beach sand with just a touch of spice.

Updated review, two years later, June, 2010, following a brief decant:  Color is consistent.  Still a shy red cherry fruit on the nose.  The palate now centers in the middle of your mouth, bringing those furry red cherries to a stunning focus.  Moving to the edges is a more liqueur-like cherry... there it sits for a long and delightful finish.  This bumps up to a solid four stars, now five years from vintage date.  Great value, especially if you can manage putting one of the Four Vines Old Vine Zinfandel's away for a couple years past purchase date.
