Review and Rating: ***+ $$ Kumala Reserve Pinotage, 2004, South Africa

Review: The Kumala Reserve Pinotage, 2004, South Africa, is a deep purple color in the glass. Aromas are earthy, creamy, and reminiscent of black cherry.

On the palate, there is the first strong impression of black walnuts. That holds and holds. Then comes a full deep plum fruit surrounding the walnuts. Great tannins support the strong fruit, offering a nice balance. It all ends with a smoky finish. Three stars out of five, with a plus for that interesting and odd walnut/smoke combo.
