Tapena Garnacha (Grenache), 2006, Spain - Review

Review: The Tapena Garnacha is 100% grenache - a recent 2006 bottling. In the glass, it is medium velvet red. Sweet aromas of violets pump gently from the glass with an alcohol "lift".

On the palate, you first notice middle plum notes, wrapped pretty quickly in a pleasant, lightly acidic, lightly sweet robe. Finish is sweet - a bit acidic and hot, suggesting that storage time would do this wine well. All in all, rounder and more balanced than I anticipated from a full-out grenache bottling.
