**** $ Stephan Reuter Saar Riesling Trocken (Dry), 2006, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Germany - Review and Rating

Review: The Stephan Reuter Saar Riesling Trocken, 2006, is a dry riesling ("trocken"), modestly priced.

In the glass, this is almost transparent, light glints of yellow and green. Steely, flinty, slate, mineral grass aromas. Chrome steel probably says it best. Kind of sauvignon blanc-ish.

On the palate, it is much, much smoother than the aroma would suggest. There is an expansive middle that becomes the first note; you get a touch of cream with your grass. Acids and sweetness are there, but fully in the background, adding light touches of balance.

Really outstanding. I would spend an evening with it, and it earns four stars. Screaming value at its very modest price point.

I don't see too many other folks writing about this wine, but a review in Cork'd gives it 89 points. Perhaps that's slightly stingy, based on my enthusiasms.
