***+ $$ Sebastiani Chardonnay, 2006, Sonoma, CA - Review and Rating

Review: The Sebastiani Chardonnay, 2006, from Sonoma, is light yellow in the glass, with gleams of honey.

On the palate, a chilled glass sports deep, butterscotch aromas, touched with light oak. On the palate, the butterscotch rules, hitting the middle of the palate like a dump-truck full of candies. It is all backed by a touch of light acids on the side. Finish is clean, though comparatively brief.

I'll go with three stars, with a plus for its "old-timey" nature. Not every one will enjoy this rich style in the face of current trends towards sleeker, stainless-steel-influenced chardonnay.

Wine Spectator awarded 87 points, saying, "Ripe, with a honeyed edge to the mineral, sage and herbal notes. Complex, if young and in need of bottle time. Drink now through 2009. 65,000 cases made."
