***+ Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel, 2007, Sonoma, CA - Review and Rating

Review: In the glass, the 2007 Seghesio Zinfandel from Sonoma, CA, is deep magenta, with purple highlights at the rim. You can detect aromas spilling into the room even as you pour.

On closer attention, the aromas are seen as creamy, bright and plumy at the same time, perhaps mingled with muddled very-ripe blueberries. On the palate, a slightly brambly deep fruit touches at the back of the palate. It bright sweetness and a touch of oak, rounding out a set of brighter berry notes. Furry tannins settle the finish in for a good. long, pleasing wrap-up. Sweet fruit is still primary, though there is enough tannin for nice aging. Three stars out of five with a plus for its potential. This one may wind its way up to four stars in a year or two.

Wine Spectator named Seghesio Zinfandel, 2007, to its 2008 Top 100 List, awarding 93 points and saying: "A seductive and vigorous Zinfandel, with smoky black cherry and blueberry aromas and youthful wild berry, sage and cracked pepper flavors that have a lingering finish and zesty tannins. Drink now through 2012."
