Updated Review: **+ $$ Barons De Rothschild Lafite Reserve Speciale, 2006, France - Review and Rating

Find Lafite Reserve Speciale pricing and retail availability

Review: Well, how exciting - Barons de Rothschilds Lafite at a reasonable price - and a "Reserve Speciale" at that!! Or so, that's what many folks think. Please don't be confused with Chateau Lafite Rothschild, which will run you several hundred dollars a bottle.

The Reserve Speciale is a decidedly more budget-friendly wine, from the haut-Medoc area of France. Let's see how it stacks up...

Original tasting notes, February, 2009:

In the glass, it is mid deep red. On the nose, the aroma is of sweet red plums. Flavor is consistent - a simple impression of sweet red plums. Tone is generally light, acidic, little tannins or finish. OK, but I won't seek it out again - so that's two stars out of five on the Spirit of Wine scale.

Updated review, over three years later, August, 2012:   Deep burgundy in the glass.  Soft nose, classic with plums.  Gentle fruit is accompanied by a clean mineral overtone, adding a plus to the two stars.
