*** $ Cave de Saumur Reserve des Vignerons, 2005, Val de Loire, France - Wine Review and Rating

Review: The Cave des Saumur Reserve des Vignerons, 2005, is 100% cabernet franc from the Loire, France, area.

In the glass, it shows as medium to deep, dusty red. Quite round, sweet and fruity on the nose, shows a touch of vegetable and earth. On the palate, it's all down to business - forget the fruit, I'm talking gritty sand, a touch of hay, plenty of purple highlights. Acids and tannins left to pucker the cheeks. Not a wimpy wine, for sure. Finish is clean, slightly hot. Three full stars on the Spirit of Wine scale. Could age even a while longer.

Great value - that's unusual from a French varietal.

Wine Spectator awarded a surprising 90 points, calling it "deceptively concentrated."
