*** $$ Martini & Rossi Asti (Spumante / Dolce), Asti, Italy - Wine Review and Rating

Find Martini & Rossi Asti at WineZap.

By way of background: Martini & Rossi Asti (Spumante / Dolce) is a sweet sparkling wine from the Asti D.O.C.G. area of Italy, built of moscato bianco grapes. It is a widely enjoyed wine, one so familiar that I am almost "taking one for the team" by making this review. Nonetheless, it is made in a manner similar enough from other moscato bianco's in the Asti region as to be worth proper consideration.

In the glass: Martini & Rossi Asti shows as light vanilla in the glass, and displays a solid top foam when poured.

On the nose: Poured without a decant and swirled lightly, a mild yeast aroma dominates.

On the palate: What you notice first is a sweet, creamy, yeast flavor combined with citrus in the mid-palate.

And the finish: The finish comes relatively quickly - even, crisp, with not the slightest bit of sweet cloying elements.

In summary: Pleasant enough overall, with enough oompf to draw me back again. Thus, three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Perfect for what it intended for - enjoying with family or friends around a festive table.

If you seek an equally-friendly, but more nuanced, layered experience, consider Braida Moscato d'Asti, just a couple of dollars more costly than Martini & Rossi.
