Original Review:

By way of background: Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere of Saint Emilion in the Bordeaux region of France,  has made a number of significant investments in its winemaking within the past few decades.  Today, it produces about 65,000 bottles a year of top notch Bordeaux red wine.  For 2007, the wine is a combination of 55% merlot, 40% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon, aged on fine lees in new barrels before bottling.

In the glass: Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere shows as deep medium red in the glass.

On the nose: Poured with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this Bordeaux blend shows bold, sweet, foresty, dark cherry fruit on the nose.

On the palate: The first element on the palate is dark cherry across the entire roof of your mouth.  Then, the cherry makes a reverse move, with a sweet backfill into your cheeks.

And the finish: Long and solid.

In summary: Overall, this a wonderfully balanced experience, stunningly even, and - remarkably - ready to drink immediately.  Rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for its happy approachability.
