Original Review:

By way of background: The origins of Chateau Haut-Bergey in Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, date back to the 1400's.  For 2007, the winery produced 50,000 bottles of red wine from 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot grapes.   These were aged for almost a year-and a half in 50% new oak.

In the glass: Haut-Bergey shows as deep burgundyin the glass.

On the nose: Poured without a decant and swirled vigorously, this bordeaux has a base aroma of classic old-world wood.

On the palate: The first element on the palate is rounded, purple ink.

And the finish: Intense tannins hold the fruit aloft.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
