Original Tasting and Review, February, 2010:

By way of background:Avery Lane Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington State is an offering from the Barclays Wine collection . The 2007 vintage is finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Avery Lane shows as light to medium red in the glass.

On the nose: Poured with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this cabernet sauvignon shows a strong, red, fruity, almost candy-like, merlot fruity aroma.

On the palate: The first element on the palate is an intriguing mid-palate mix of ripe red cherry plus mint, more grown-up than the aroma suggested.  Light red cherry moves to your cheeks on the strength of flavor, not tannin or acids.

And the finish: The finish is clean and round.

In summary: Overall, light but solid mid-weight red cherry experience. Rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, because I would try it again.  Not really made for age or air.  At Barclays pricing, this is not a good value purchase; however, at bargain prices under $10 a bottle, it does move to good value category.

Following two-day decant under vacuum in partially-filled bottle:  Held all elements of its original, unique, fruity, light-hearted nature.

Updated review, a year and a half later, September, 2011:  Wow.  Color, aroma and even palate are almost entirely consistent with the earlier tasting.  All nicely knitted now. Earns a plus for its solid longevity, and becomes a good value.  Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle:  Still a soft and fresh, candied nose.  And on the palate, the unique light mint lift brightens the soft red fruit.  Held up well to the air time too.
