Original Tasting and Review:

By way of background: This is Castello D'Albola Vin Santo del Chianti Classico, 2000, a dessert wine prepared from sangiovese grapes.

In the glass: Castello D'Albola Vin Santo shows in the glass more like it is scotch than wine.

On the nose: Poured with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this sweet wine shows a light caramel nose.

On the palate: The palate shows sweet and raisined acids, not particularly distinctive.

And the wrap-up: The finish cloys a bit with sweetness.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for pleasantness.  Much better buys in the dessert wine category.
