Original Tasting and Review:
By way of background: Acacia A Pinot Noir is Acacia's offering from across California, different from its more exclusive Napa Carneros offering. For the 2008 vintage, the alcohol level is 13.8%.
In the glass: Acacia A shows as deep burgundy in the glass, somewhat unusually dark for a pinot noir.
On the nose: Poured with no decant and swirled vigorously, this California pinot shows shy dark berries.
On the palate: The first elements on the palate are pointy, acidic yet sweet and bright red raspy berries.
And the wrap-up: The finish is clean and minerally.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for potency. Good value.
