Original Tasting and Review:

By way of background: Mirassou Riesling, Monterey County, CA, is a value-priced riesling from the Mirassou line.. The 2006 vintage is finished at a solid 12.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Mirassou Riesling shows as in the deep, slightly golden yellow in the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, this California riesling delivers crisp apple aromas, but full of creamy minerals and some slate.

On the palate: Even and slick on the palate, with a gliding mild slate, followed by  friendly citrus.

And the wrap-up: The finish is just off-dry, with a sweet and slightly sparky finish.

In summary: Overall, a solid experience at a bargain price. Rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for a characteristic blend of typical riesling elements.
