Original Tasting and Review:

By way of background: Napa Cellars Napa Valley Chardonnay is sourced from various cooler vineyards in Napa Valley, CA, and is an offering from Trinchero Family Estates. The 2008 vintage is finished at 14.2% alcohol.

In the glass: Napa Cellars Chardonnay shows as very light honey in the glass.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, this Napa chard offers bright, tangy, crisp tropical notes of pineapple, melon and citrus, without even a hint of oak.

On the palate: The first elements on the palate are a slick butterscotch and rum combination, with a citrus brightness following directly along.  A sparkling stainless-steel sweetness moves up into your cheeks.

And the wrap-up: The finish is cleanly defined with a bright, lingering quality.

In summary: Overall, a strong showing by a medium-bodied chardonnay. Rates three full stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, since I'd return to it enthusiastically.

Following long decant, almost one week kept cool in partially-filled bottle under vacuum:  consistent aroma.  On the palate, a slick sweet minerality has come to the fore, settling in as an equal partner with the citrus.  Finish moves slightly from brightness to a light, unsweetened butterscotch.  Adding a plus for awesome balance.  Consider allowing some age or decant time on this!
