Original Tasting and Review:

By way of background: Bodega Inurrieta Mediodia Sur Lies Rosado (Rose) is made from 100% grenache (garnacha) grapes, aged sur lies.  It comes from the Navarra region of Spain, an area whose heritage was built on garnacha-based roses, but of late has turned more to classic red varietals like tempranillo, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. The 2009 vintage is finished at a whopping 14% alcohol.

In the glass: Inurrieta Mediodia Rose shows as brilliant strawberry pink in the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, this grenache-based rose brings a high-toned sweet strawberry nose aloft, light and brilliant.  Reminiscent of rose petals in tone, without the specifics of roses in the nose.

On the palate: The first elements on the palate are a surprisingly sweet and light middle, with light waves of strawberry and currant drawing up your cheeks.  Tangy, fresh, acidic, lightly sweet and balanced with its aromatics, this wine wants to be enjoyed young and cool.

In summary: Overall, rates three full stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a notch above for what is likely to be a well-received pleasantness.  Life is good, and this rose is an real value.
