Original Tasting and Review, June, 2010:

By way of background: Bridlewood Estate Winery Syrah is from Central Coast, CA. The 2006 vintage is finished at 14.6% alcohol.

In the glass: Bridlewood Syrah shows as deep magenta in the glass, opaque to within a half inch of the edge.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this Central Coast syrah shows a meaty, fleshy and sweet ripe fruit aroma.

On the palate: The first elements on the palate are deep, smoky black fruit, almost over-ripe.  Alcoholic ripe plums ride up your cheeks.

And the wrap-up: The finish is a bit hot and simple, but potent and lasting.

In summary: Overall, a bold, dark, robust experience.  Rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  This becomes a best value at its outstanding price.

Following one-day decant:  Aroma still bold and rich; now the palate is better balanced - the over-ripeness has pulled back, leaving a rich, dark cocoa and black currant combination.  Improved to warrant three stars with a plus for powerful balance.  Awesome value with a decant.

Updated review, over a year later, now five years from vintage date, July, 2011:  Consistent color and aroma, except that the nose is moving almost to over-ripened.  The palate has held together quite well, meaty, fat and sweet black fruit.  Yum. Gets a plus for potency on top of its three stars.  Remains a best value.
