Original Tasting and Review:

By way of background: This is Bouchaine Pinot Noir from the Carneros region of Napa Valley, CA.  The 2007 vintage is finished at 14.1% alcohol.  According to the vintner, Bouchaine Carneros Pinot Noir is a blend of Dijon, Pommard, and Swan Pinot clones from their own vineyards and select lots from neighboring Carneros vineyards. These neighbors include the Gee Vineyard (dry-farmed), Las Brisas Vineyards, and Casa Carneros.

In the glass:  Deep magenta, almost opaque in the center.   Bold and dark for a pinot noir.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this pinot noir shows inky and rugged tannins.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are sweet and dark inky tannins - dark purple and bold. Full, deep, lasting finish with light to moderate acids.

In summary: Overall, three stars with plus for power. on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
