By way of background: This is  Cycles Gladiator Pinot Noir, California, 2008, very much a value-priced pinot noir.

Original Tasting and Review, September, 2010:

In the glass: This is medium brilliant ruby red.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this California pinot noir shows a bright, lightly candied and slightly oaky nose, with a note of odd funk that may pass with some air.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are clean, fresh, medium bright mid-palate fruits, no noticeable tannis nor challenging acids.  Pleasant and easy.

In summary: Overall, simple but pleasurable. Rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with plus for easy accessibility.  Good value at its bargain price, especially for pinot noir these days.

Updated review, over a year later,  November, 2011: Light pink brick in color now.  Sweet and light fruit on the nose.  Hard cherry candy on the palate, light and surrounded with gentle acids.  Tucks in your cheeks.  Simple but pleasant enough to hit the third star and become a best value at its bargain pinot noir price.  Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Softer sweet fruit on the nose.  Candy and acids play together on the palate now, generating a solid three star, best value experience.  Stunning deal on a pinot noir.  Don't be afraid to give Cycles Gladiator time and air.
