Original Tasting and Review, opening thoughts: I tried the 2003 Leaping Lizard Merlot some time ago but wasn't a very big fan.  We'll give the cabernet sauvignon a try here, with a few more years of bottle age.

By way of background: This is the bargain-priced Leaping Lizard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA, 2003, finished at 12.9% alcohol.  In the picture, you can see that my ceramic frogs are ready to leap at the chance to try this lizard too!

In the glass: Medium deep red, fairly consistent to the edges, with no noticeable bricking.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this value-priced Napa cab shows strong old world, stinky feet aromas, probably a Brett growth.  There's good fruit in there too.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are a full, fleshy, still somewhat sweet mid-palate of black cherries, toned with the pleasant funk.  Acids and tannins are toned down, leaving the solid center to do the talking.  Full and potent with no alcohol heat.

In summary: Overall, surprising complexity, depth and power at a bargain price.   Rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale with a definite plus for complexity.  Awesome value.
