Original Tasting and Review:

By way of background: This is EXP Viognier, Dunnigan Hills, CA, 2005, estate bottled and finished at a fairly whopping 14.5% alcohol.  I have tried the EXP line before, and liked the EXP Syrah as a best value.

In the glass: Light honey golden.

On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, this five-year aged viognier carries bold olive oil butterscotch to your nostrils.  The high alcohol moves this aroma along with power and certainty.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are sleek, lightly-oaked round and smooth chardonnay-style fruit, showing just the slightest tropical hints by way of overtone to the slick, velvety texture.  The alcohol doesn't show, but helps the flavors to stay fixed in your palate and settle very slowly.

In summary: Overall, a rich, deep white wine experience, revealing smooth tones with few acid highlights. Rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale,  with a plus for its concentration and pleasant nature.  This is a best buy at its value price.

Following long decant, two days kept cool under vacuum:  Consistent aromas and the palate holds up exquisitely.  Actually turns just a touch sweeter on the finish.
