Initial review, by way of background: This is Orin Swift The Prisoner Red Blend, Napa, CA, 2009, finished at a whopping 15.2% alcohol.  It is a blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, aged in a combination of new and seasoned oak.

In the glass:  Deep magenta, opaque about 3/4 of an inch in from the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously,  you detect jammy and sweet oak-toasted zin fruit.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are dark-chocolate-covered cherries across your palate. Thick and still sleek, with smooth tannins buttressing the length, and almost no acids challenging the overall smooth tone. Coats your cheeks, and the finish gently melts away, like chocolate in a warm child's hand. Licorice and oak moves in on the finish too.

In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for excruciating sensual pleasure.  Good value, even at its premium price.
