Initial review, by way of background: This is Rockledge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon The Rocks, St. Helena, Napa, CA, 2005, finished at a relatively whopping 15.2% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep magenta, purple at rim, opaque from about 3/4 inch in from the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this Napa cab shows modest but rich aromas of eucalyptus and medium dark fruit, lush and deep overall.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are a full and intense robe of silty and slick fruit, the dark essence just dripping down your cheeks.  There is oak there, and sweet dark chocolate, and fine sand.  The finish sifts on and on and on.  Extremely rewarding at this young age with a short decant, yet seems to have plenty of stuffing to carry on for quite awhile, either in a decanter or in your wine cellar.

In summary: Overall, an awesome, intense and still pleasant experience, rating a full five stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Can't tip the "best value" meter at its non-trivial price, but a wine to definitely keep on your radar screen.

With long decant, several days kept cool in partially filled bottle under vacuum:  The aroma and the palate have held steadfast, completely fixed in time.  Longer decant, another day, kept cool without vacuum:  Nose is more shy now.  The concentration remains, but not the character of flavors.  Recommend a moderate decant
