Initial review, by way of background, January 2011: This is Jacob's Creek Steingarten Riesling, Barossa, Australia, 2006, finished at 12.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Brilliant clear lemon vanilla.

On the nose: Poured quite cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this Aussie riesling brings a positively powerful steely nose of a thousand cutting blades slicing through a mix of lemons, mixed citrus and green grass.  After you hunt around a bit (which you will definitely want to), you'll find butterscotch and the slightest hint of sweet cocoa and stinky feet too.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are the citrus core, leavened by a gentler silky sweet robe.  But the robe vanishes quickly and the searing citrus takes hold for the finish. 

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus because I believe this one may have the fruit and the acidity to age magnificently for a couple/few years.

Following long decant,  two days kept cool in partially filled bottle:  The aromas have not moved a flicker.  On the palate, the citrus and sweet core have switched places, the sweet core coming on first and the citrus following through.  Held up very well to the time, and suggests good things for bottle aging.

Updated review, almost three years later, December, 2013:  Hints of honey coming into the color.  The nose has toned itself down but shows the same combination of elements: steel, lemon, cocoa.  Now the palate is full of light, prickly acids, like you are wearing a robe of tiny needles.  They don't jab you, but they rush up into your cheeks and lodge, letting little prickles of lemon fruit squeak out from time to time, hanging on for a full minute or more.
