Initial review, by way of background, January, 2011: This is Longchase Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon, California, 2009, finished at 12.% alcohol. It is an sampling provided by the Wine Insiders service, and is a California Wine Club Selection.
In the glass: Longchase is medium magenta, with a candy purple rim.
On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, this value-priced Cali cab shows aromas of oak and purple-highlighted musky bright fruit. Bright, sweet, but not candy-ish.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are a full, rich, fruity but still balanced and adult palate. Surprisingly deep, sweet and griping in light of the aromas. A nice tannin edge circles the fruit, and light sweetness and acids also help the flavors linger nicely.
In summary: Overall, a very friendly wine with some layers that rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value.

Updated review, over a year later, April, 2012: Consistent color and aromas. Remains a nicely layered and balanced mid-red with a pleasant, smoky sleekness.
