Initial review, by way of background: This is George Phillips Cellars Sauvignon Blanc, California, 2009, finished at 13.5% alcohol.   It is an offering from the Wine Insiders service, and is a California Wine Club Selection.

In the glass: Quite pale with a vanilla yellow tone.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this sauvignon blanc shows more ripe peach than grass, seeming deeper than many sauvignon blancs I have experienced.  There is a nice overtone of hazel nuts and lemon.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are a medium weight, lightly sweet, gently aromatic mid-palate, showing just hints of grass and lemon.  A clean sugar cane essence accompanies the finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making it a best value at its price.

Following long decant, two days kept cool in partially filled bottle:   Grass coming on stronger in the nose, still with deeper body than typical.  Palate has held fast: balanced and pleasant.
