Initial review, by way of background, February, 2011: This is Redmond Ranch Zinfandel, California, 2007, finished at 13.5% alcohol.   It is an offering from the Wine Insiders service, and is a California Wine Club Selection.

In the glass: Medium burgundy red with ruby highlights.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this Cali zin brings bright and sulty ink to the nose.  Purple maroon.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are a perfumed, light middle, with flavors consistent with the aromas.  Flowery, with just a touch of black pepper.  Medium body in the mouth, the flavors build to a crescendo which is both fancy and rustic.  Simple, clean, fading finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for delicate pleasantness.  Best value.

Following long decant, two days kept cool in partially filled bottle:    The nose is even bolder and inkier.  Fuller middle now, peppery and inky.  Powerful impact.  Light tannins, but a pleasing finish.

Updated review, over a year later,  April, 2012:  Consistent color.  Intriguing aroma still, of ink and chocolate covered ripe blackberries.  Light, somewhat hollow middle, but with sweet and peppery style and clean finish.
