Initial review, by way of background: This is Folie a Deux Menage a Trois California Red Wine, California, 2009, finished at 13.5% alcohol.  The "menage" is a blend of zinfandel, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, fermented separately and then blended to the final mix.

In the glass: Medium magenta, ruby edges.

On the nose: Poured cool with an hour decant, shows sweet plum and some charcoal.  From the aroma, seems like this will be round but quite young.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a sweet attack of full plum with a round middle and light touch of bitterness from blackened oak.  Moderate length, sweet, but entirely clean finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for thoroughly enjoyable nature.  Best value at bargain price.

Following long decant, four days under vacuum in a partially filled bottle, kept cool:  Deep red berries on the nose, less plum.  Still a sweet attack, but now it is ripe red berries and some lightly furry oak.  No bitterness.  Four stars with the decant.  Awesome value. And even longer decant, held overnight in partially filled bottle, kept cool:  The nose is getting simpler and redder.  Awesome, well-knitted palate, with wafting sweet overtones.  Still the finish is clean and precise.  Crazy value.
