Initial review, by way of background: This is Chateau de La Riviere, Fronsac, Bordeaux, France, 2002.  The chateau is built on the remains of a fortress built by emperor Charlemagne back a few years, in 769.

In the glass:  Chateau de La Riviere is deep purple magenta, opaque to within a quarter inch of the edge of the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, this displays a full, boldy, creamy purple nose with oaky depth.  Strong!

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are purple tannins and acids on the mid-palate, closing with a bright finish.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for power.
