Wine Review & Rating: ***+ $$ China Great Wall Wine Co. Greatwall Dry Red Wine, Guanting Lake, China non-vintage

Find prices and retail availability for China wine.

Initial review, by way of background: This is China Great Wall Wine Co. Greatwall Dry Red Wine, Guanting Lake, China non-vintage (but estimated as 2009), finished at 13.5% alcohol.  It is from a large, sometimes maligned, sometimes complimented, winery northwest of Beijing.

In the glass: Deep magenta, purple at rim and opaque from within a close quarter inch of the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, bold, deep, classic cabernet black cassis.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are soft, yielding, rich dark fruit with solid vanilla and gentle caressing tannins.  Balanced, moderate length finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for its classic style.  Good value, high quality in a Chinese dry red wine.
